Lesson objectives

  • Design a simple tagging plan
  • Use behaviour to branch sequences

Tags and segments

Tags label a subscriber with facts: how they joined, what they're interested in, what they've bought. Segments are saved filters built from those tags and behaviours.

A starter tagging plan

  • Source: which lead magnet or page they joined from.
  • Interest: topic clicks or quiz answers.
  • Stage: lead, customer, repeat customer.
  • Product: what they've bought (so you stop pitching it to them).
  1. Clicked offer link
  2. Tag: interested
  3. Send FAQ + case study
  4. Purchase
A branched follow-up

Action steps

  1. Write your tag list with one-line definitions
  2. Remove buyers from sales sequences for products they own

Checklist

  • Every tag is documented
  • Buyers exit relevant sales sequences
