Lesson objectives

  • Create a one-page funnel map
  • Define the goal of each step

Map before you build

A funnel map is a simple diagram showing each step, its goal and what happens next. Mapping first prevents the most expensive mistake in funnel building: creating pages and tools you don't need.

  1. Write your end goal on the right (e.g. 'booked consultation').
  2. Write your traffic source on the left.
  3. Fill in the steps between, keeping each one focused on a single action.
  4. For every step, write the one metric that tells you if it's working.
  5. Note what happens to people who don't take the action (follow-up, retargeting).
  1. Instagram posts
  2. Opt-in page
  3. 5-email sequence
  4. Booking page
  5. Consultation
